  • College Courses 
    Available to SBHS Students with support from the Early College Network through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
    • About the Program:

      These college courses are offered over the summer, free of charge to SBHS students entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grades. All courses listed are developed and administered by Arizona State University (ASU) and take place virtually. Students who opt to take one of these courses must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be willing to work independently. Completed courses can be submitted to Mrs. Valle to be added to the SBHS transcript. Students will also receive an ASU transcript that can be used to transfer credits earned to a future college*. 
      Courses are designed as self-paced or 8-week session, please check the listing below to confirm.

      • Self-Paced Courses allow students to work at their own pace
        • Completion speed is based on the time a student spends
        • Approximately 3 months are recommended to complete these courses
      • 8-Week Courses involve specific deadlines
        • There may be some self-paced elements, students should check the requirements of each course

      *Each college and major may have their own rules and requirements, so please confirm the transferability of these courses with your school of choice.

  • Courses Available (by discipline)

    • Math Courses
      • Math Courses through ASU are self-paced. It is recommended to plan on at least 3 months to complete a math course.

        MAT 117: College Algebra (3 credits)
        • For students who have completed Algebra 2 or above
        • "Learn the fundamentals of algebra and prepare for calculus courses [...]" (ASU)
         
        MAT 170: Precalculus (3 credits)
        • For students who have completed Algebra 2/Trig Honors or above
        • This course is used as a summer assignment for AP Calculus students
        • "Learn the skills required for sucess in future calculus studies" (ASU)
    • Computer Science Courses
      • Computer Science courses through ASU include some self-paced courses and some 8 week courses.

        CIS 194: Business Technology Fundamentals (1 credit)
        • "Learn the skills required to be entry-level, technical support personnel in any business" (ASU)
        • Self-paced
         
        CIS 194: Computer Networking in Organizations (2 credits)
        • "Understand a full overview of computer networking" (ASU)
        • Self-paced
         
        CIS 105: Computer Applications and Information Technology (3 credits)
        • "Understand how businesses, through competitive strategy, are keeping pace in a rapidly changing, increasingly digital world" (ASU)
        • 8-Week Course starts 5/16/2023
         
    • Science Courses
      • SES 106: Habitable Worlds

        • "Explore interactive simulations and virtual field trips that introduce astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology and physics as you search for life beyond Earth" (ASU)
        • Self-paced
    • Humanities Courses
      • All humanities courses are 8-weeks and begin 6/20/2023

        COM 100: Introduction to Human Communication (3 credits)

        • "Learn the basics of effective human communication, which can change the way you interact with others and the world" (ASU)

        PSY 101: Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)
        • "Gain insight into how your mind works and why you behave the way you do, alone or with others" (ASU)
         
        SOC 101: Introduction to Sociology (3 credits)
        • "Gain deeper understanding of why people act the way they do" (ASU)
    • Next Steps:

      1. Meet with your counselor to discuss course options
      2. Register for the course(s) of your choosing using this link
      3. Complete the College Course Contract (email to Mrs. Horan)
      4. Wait for more information about logging into the ASU Portal
      5. Start your class!
