SBHS offers a variety of support and enrichment opportunites for student engagement over the summer.
Summer School:
Incoming freshmen can enroll in our two skills courses for extra support in math and reading. Many freshmen also opt to take a one-semester health course. Our current students can make up one-semester of a variety of courses. Full-year courses are also available in Spanish 2 and Spanish 3.
Please see the information below about each of the courses. To register for any of the courses offered, use the respective registration forms on each tab. Please contact the Summer School Director, Mrs. Horan, with any questions.
Summer Reading:
All students participate in the summer reading program each summer. Assignments differ based on grade level and English course. Please refer to the Summer Reading section below for specific information.
The Math and English/Reading Skills Courses are offered to incoming Freshmen only. These courses will help students to connect material learned in middle school with the skills needed to be successful in high school course work.
Please review the Guidelines for Summer School participation. To enroll in the Skills courses, complete the Registration Form (Click here) and return with payment to Mrs. Ramirez in the Main Office.
Online courses in Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 will be offered over 5 weeks. These are full-year, for-credit courses where students are expected to engage with the class and teacher daily. Each course has 5 hours of work per day, 5 days per week (no class July 4th). Classes will meet for 2 hours each morning, and participate asynchronously in the afternoon.
These courses are available to incoming 10th-12th grade students. Please refer to the Summer School Info Sheet and the Spanish Registration Form for more information. To enroll, please return the signed form and payment to Mrs. Ramirez in the Main Office.
Make up courses are available for students who have previously failed a semester during the school year. Students may only make up one semester of a particular course, but can enroll in multiple different courses. Class schedules (including in-person, online and hybrid formats) differ by course.
Please refer to the Summer School Info Sheet and the Summer School Make Up Registration Form for more details. To enroll, please return the signed form and payment to Mrs. Ramirez in the Main Office.
The Health course is offered as an independent study course for 5 weeks online. Students can pace themselves through the material, but must finish all coursework before the end of summer school. All material and assignments are provided via Google Classroom.
Please review the Guidelines for Summer School participation. To enroll in Health, complete the Registration Form and return with payment to Mrs. Ramirez in the Main Office.
Each summer, students in each grade level are responsible for completing a summer reading assignment. These assignments involve reading a novel (or novels) and then completing corresponding activities during the summer, as well as into the school year. The list of summer reading novels can be found here. Students may use a digital or physical copy of the books (although a paper copy is recommended).
